Axis Builders along with Kirksey Architecture & Churchworx renovated the existing 6th floor of Second Baptist School building “E” located on the main Woodway campus. The renovation of the existing 20,000 SF revitalized the existing spaces for a unique environment of hands-on learning that fosters creativity through implementing state-of-the-art technology. The scope of work included updating the Science Labs, Innovations Center, Library and creating a new Business and Tech Entrepreneur space.
The Physics labs are complete with 3D printers, CNC machines, and structural support for pendulum experiments of all weights and sizes. The labs are designed to open to each other, creating an 1,800 SF space large enough to build Hot Wheels racetracks for scientists and kids in all of us.
The Business and Tech Entrepreneur spaces are outfitted with all the standard equipment that would be expected from an elite college preparatory school including a soundproof podcast booth and real-time stock ticker.
The Biology and Chemistry Rooms are full laboratories complete with new epoxy resin casework, fume hoods, gas and water turrets, emergency showers, ISIMET controllers, and a standalone Teacher’s Prep room where refrigerated and frozen items are stored.
Great care was taken in the design and construction of the library. The attention to detail includes acoustic wood ceilings, eucalyptus millwork, updated lighting and controls, History Wall, new library stacks and banquette seating with 3Form panels to create study pods. A separate assembly room was also created within the library to create a multipurpose assembly/ meeting space.
The purposeful intent of this project was achieved to allow the school to do what it does best: Shape future leaders.
